At St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School, we want every child to be happy and enthusiastic learners of Music, and to be eager to achieve their very best in order to fulfil their God-given talents. We firmly believe that the recipe for success is high quality first-wave teaching in Music, which is central to the life of our happy, caring school.
At St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School, music is an essential part of a broad and balanced curriculum. It is a foundation subject in the National Curriculum and an art form that all children may participate in with enjoyment. It can be integrated across the whole curriculum to add value to topics and themes. Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.
