“We believe that physical education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is a unique and vital contributor to a pupil’s physical development and well-being. Through the selection of suitably differentiated tasks, it is intended that pupils, irrespective of their starting ability, will enjoy success and be motivated to further develop their individual potential.”
At St Mary’s RC Primary School, we believe P.E. and Sport play an important role in making our vision statement a reality for every pupil, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better. We have welcomed the Government’s announcement to extend the Sport Premium to help primary schools improve the quality of the P.E. and sport activities they offer their pupils and we are committed to using this resource for developing high-quality P.E. lessons, alongside greater opportunities for sporting competitions and clubs for all our young people.
Sustainability
We are also using the Sports Premium to provide CPD for our P.E. Co-ordinator, teaching and support staff and to employ specialist P.E coaching so that we have the expertise within school to deliver outstanding P.E. lessons in all phases of the school.
What does the Sport Premium mean for St Mary’s RC Primary School?
‘Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this’ (DfE June 2013).
At St Mary’s RC Primary School we have split up the funding by the three key areas for consideration: Physical Education/Curricular P.E., Healthy Active Lifestyles and Competitive Sport.
